Who are we?
We are a small company owned and operated by Alex and Ceci and we are based in the Swiss Alps during the summer season. For 40 years we have been exploring the rivers of the world and our travels have led us to over 60 countries. We simply love everything about rivers and rafting.
In 2012 we started River Gurus which dedicates to forming professional river guides. We created the international standardization for the World Rafting Federation and the Royal Moroccan Rafting Federation. We have running training courses all over the world.
In 2018 while John and Alex where running a 35 day trip down the length of the Blue Nile in Ethiopia we came out with the World Rivers program. Basically in places where we cant run an expedition style trip where we camp each night at the side of the river, we decided to visit countries and run lots of small river trips and mix them with cultural activities and stay in nice family run hotels and we dine in lively local restaurants. Today we have trips in so many countries.
In 2020 we started Mini Rafts Europe with the idea of creating the industry of private rafters in Europe, teaching people how to row down white water. With a struggle to find boats at descent prices we decided to create our own brand of rafts and after spending time designing we came out with a raft that has amazing performance on the water.

Meet the Team
Alex Aitken
Born in Scotland, raised in Saudi Arabia and has spent most of his life travelling in search of river adventures. His travels have taken him to explore rivers in over 60 countries. Alex has an incredible amount of energy which tends to rub onto anyone around him. He loves being on the water and he loves passing on his knowledge to new river enthusiasts.

Cecil Kuchen
Ceci is Swiss and manages MRE, keeping us all on the water, doing what we love. Although during the summer she is mainly in the office, in the winter she joins Alex on adventures. She is always happy and smiling and is always happy to answer any questions you may have. Ceci is known as the queen of the Blue Nile as she is one of the few ladies on the planet that has descended the whole of the Blue Nile river in Ethiopia from the source of the river to the border of Sudan, just over 1000km of river.

The Girls, Padme and Mayan
Padme and Mayan are the daughters of Alex and have been rafting since they were one year of age. They have run rivers in Mexico, Kenya, Scotland, Spain, Switzerland, France, Morocco and the UAE. Although they are now at school, during all their holidays you will find them in a boat, playing the river and showing you the fun lines through the rapids.

John Yost
John was the founder of Mountain Travel Sobek, (the worlds 1st expedition rafting company) and some 20 something years ago, Alex use to guide their trips down in Mexico and Peru. Since then John started a new company called Wantok that specializes in Multi day rafting trips. Each year Alex designs and runs new trips for John to some incredible destinations.
John has a wealth of knowledge and has most probbly run more rivers on our planet that anybody we know.

Dario Lopez
Dario is a true Mexican legend. He has been guiding and leading trips for over 30 years all over Mexico, he is also a shaman hosting spiritual rituals on a weekly basis, keeping his ancestors routes alive and he is also a spectacular D.J. who mixes electronic music with natural instruments from his culture. Dario and Alex have worked together for years and Dario tends to run all our adventure Veracruz trips in Mexico. |

Pato is the active kayaker and raft guide and the owner of Ape Stuff. He is originally from Argentina but now lives in the Pyrenees. When he is not out boating he can be found in his shop designing and making the best equipment for kayakers and rafters that the industry has on offer. Pato is an Instructor for the World Rafting Federation and Alex and Pato tend to run many workshops together.
